Ramu Kumar
Identified as a child with special needs, Ramu has lived with Autism for the past 23 years. While undergoing a professional training process, he learned to lead the kitchen with authority, and excel in food preparation ensuring daily operations run smoothly. He may be hard of hearing and unable to speak, but communication is where he excels. His expressions, gestures, and presence speak louder than words ever could.

For 23 years, Bapi has lived as a non-verbal individual with special needs, yet he’s known for his warm greetings and a big radiant smile, often accompanied by a handshake or a thumbs up. During his training at Opportunity Café, Bapi honed his skills in food preparation and service. His abilities in food cutting, prep work, and service have flourished since. With the ongoing support of special educators, Bapi has found new ways to express himself, and his ability to work and communicate has grown stronger, reflecting the incredible progress he’s made.

Shyamal, 24 identifying as a special individual, was non-verbal during training at Opportunity Cafe. With the patient guidance of special educators, Shyamal’s speech has become more articulate. He now speaks with clarity and even initiates conversations on his own—his words, once hidden, now create connections with everyone he meets. His growth has been nothing short of inspiring.

Bikas, 18+ has been recognized as a CWSN since birth. During his training sessions at Opportunity Cafe, he quickly proved himself to be highly adaptable. Whether it's food preparation, customer service, or stepping in to correct new members from the Skills Academy, Vikas blends into every role effortlessly making him an invaluable part of our team. He has obtained advanced skills in kitchen operations, specialising in cooking techniques, cutting methods, and food preparation.

Nupur is known for her warmth and affection, always greeting others with a big hug. For 25 years, she has embraced her identity as a child with special needs (CWSN). Since becoming part of the inaugural training batch at Opportunity Café, she has gained valuable skills in café management and food preparation. She's also demonstrating increasing confidence, standing up for herself when needed. Her charm lies in her thoughtful gestures—she never forgets to bid farewell to guests and makes a sincere effort to remember each customer's name, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she meets. Today, Nupur proudly serves as an integral member of the café team, contributing actively to daily food service and preparation.

Sonia has always been identified has a CWSN (Children with Special Needs) and has lived with the same identity for 27 years. Since being part of the introductory training batch of Opportunity Cafe, she has received training in cafe management, and food preparations. Sonia is identified as a cafe team member actively participating in daily food prep and service. She's also exhibiting signs of exceptional leadership.

Bhargab has always been recognised as a differently-abled child, living with this identity for no less than 24 years. Since his training period at Opportunity Cafe, Bhargav has honed his skills in vegetable cutting, an essential part of food preparation. More significantly, his socialization skills—often a challenge for special youth—have improved remarkably through consistent training. Bhargav’s mischievous, childlike nature leaves an imprint on everyone he serves, making his presence unforgettable.

Aritri, 31 an exceptional special individual, also joined us as part of the training batch at Opportunity Cafe and attained a high level of competence in kitchen operations, particularly in cooking, cutting, and the preparation of food. You will find her humming a song on her own or breaking into songs unexpectedly, dissolving all boundaries, instantly captivating those around her. Her ability to connect instantly with others through music and warmth makes her beloved by all.

For two decades, Aritra, 23 has lived as a child with special needs. He has been part of the introductory training batch at Opportunity Cafe, where he quickly stood out for his natural warmth and ability to make people feel included. He treats everyone as if they are part of his own family, and his love for others shines in every interaction. Wherever Aritro goes, he brings a lively atmosphere of inclusivity, lifting the spirits of those around him.

When Sayantani Sinha, 23, began her journey at Opportunity, her mild intellectual disability often made her unsure in fast-paced environments. Through structured service training at Opportunity Skills Academy, she learned the fundamentals of food safety, hygiene, and customer interaction, gradually building confidence in every step. Today, at Opportunity Cafe, Sayantani handles food preparation, precise cutting, billing, and guest service with a quiet sense of ownership. From maintaining cleanliness standards to managing orders on the POS system, she ensures that every experience is smooth and thoughtful. Her growth reflects not just skill, but a deep understanding of care, something visitors feel in every interaction.

Full of energy and constant movement, Rajorsheee Deb Sarma, 23, lives with ADHD, hyperactivity, and autism, which makes his world dynamic and intense. At Opportunity, he was trained in channeling this energy into structured hospitality practices, from food sanitation and beverage preparation to customer handling and teamwork. Today, at Opportunity Cafe, Rajorsheee takes on multiple responsibilities, from organising and serving to running the tab and engaging with guests. His ability to stay actively involved across stations, combined with his growing control and understanding of service dynamics, makes him a powerful presence on the floor.

Dhruba Sur Roy, 20, lives with Down syndrome, and his journey has been a remarkable transfiguration. His ability to connect with guests, paired with his growing conviction in handling operations, makes him a vibrant and dependable part of the team. Trained in hospitality essentials like service flow, hygiene practices, and customer engagement, Dhruba has embraced each responsibility with enthusiasm. Whether he is assisting in preparation, serving customers, or managing invoicing, he approaches every task with sincerity and joy. His warmth, combined with skill, creates an experience that goes beyond service.

With a calm and focused approach, Sambit Ghosh, 25, who lives with intellectual disability, has steadily grown through his training at our skills academy. Learning key skills such as food hygiene maintenance, menu understanding, POS operations, Sambit found strength in structure and routine. Now at Opportunity Cafe, he plays a crucial role in maintaining mise en place, executing cuisine preparations, managing orders, and ensuring efficient service flow. His attention to detail and consistency reflect his dedication to delivering quality. Sambit’s journey is a testament to how the right training and environment can turn quiet determination into excellence.

Shubrajit Adhikari
With mild intellectual disability shaping his world since childhood, Shubhrajit Adhikary brings both unpredictability and affection to the café space. Now 27, he still fidgets often and can lose track mid-task, but his desire to please is unmissable. Since becoming part of the inaugural training batch at Opportunity Café, he checks with others twice, sometimes three times, before handing over a dish, whether it’s the garnish on a pasta or the exact placement of a brownie. There is a beautiful imperfection in everything he does, but it’s filled with effort and heart. His eagerness to remember returning customers and wave at children makes every visit feel just a little bit warmer.

Bright-eyed and ever restless, Utsho Sanyal who is just 21, brings raw and youthful chaos to the café. He lives with mild intellectual disability and mental retardation, which makes the world around him feel more intense and vivid. During his training sessions at Opportunity Cafe, that same intensity shows up in the way he assembles sandwiches, arranges fries, or rushes to greet a guest with a wide, unfiltered grin. Instructions may need to be repeated, and he might lose track momentarily, but his intentions are always anchored in care. There’s something joyful and uninhibited in everything Utsho does, and guests often say they can feel it in the food.

Dipayan Saha, 28, lives with autism, OCD, ADHD, and mild intellectual disability. What sets him apart is not just his complexity, but his sheer brilliance in managing it. During his training at Opportunity Café, Dipayan found structure, purpose, and acceptance. With his strong sense of routine, he has become incredibly efficient in tasks like precise food cutting and meticulous arrangement of supplies. His attention to detail, once misunderstood, now enhances the quality of the café’s daily operations. Dipayan’s intellectual depth and growing comfort with his surroundings have helped him connect with teammates and guests alike, with a quiet strength that leaves a lasting impression.

Oyndril Tah, 26, has lived with mild intellectual disability, but within the nurturing environment of Opportunity Café, he has discovered a sense of cadence and belonging. Oyndril brings a quiet equilibrium to the team, always punctual, always observant. His ability to carry out tasks with care and his eagerness to assist others have made him an essential presence. What makes Oyndril truly stand out, however, is his humility and unspoken empathy, he notices what others miss, and acts with heart. His growth into a dependable team member has been steady, admirable, and deeply inspiring.

When Mahesh Kunwar joined at 24, his hypoactivity made him quiet, slow-moving, and rarely the first to speak. But since being part of the training batch at Opportunity Cafe, with time Mahesh became the team’s quiet constant. Though his pace remains gentle, his commitment is unswerving. He’s found his place preparing the day’s core items, kneading dough, washing produce, assembling plates with a kind of silent grace. Even so he might not offer conversation, he offers devotion. Guests often say they can taste the calm in the food he prepares. Amid the daily whirlwind, Mahesh offers a soft steadiness that everyone in the kitchen depends on.

Anand Kumar, 20, is deaf, non-verbal, and lives with mild intellectual disability, but when he enters the kitchen, his presence speaks louder than any voice. Since his training period at Opportunity Cafe, using gestures and visual cues, Anand takes full charge of his station, chopping, sautéing, flipping and plating. He’s particularly drawn to high-attention tasks like assembling and ensuring that every element is served in perfect symmetry. His way of understanding the rhythm of the café is deeply intuitive, and his movements communicate precision and pride. Guests may not hear his voice, but they taste his intent in every bite.
